Julie Maisel currently teaches flute at DIT, Waltons, and Leeson Park schools of music. She has been a faculty member at Millsaps College (Jackson, Mississippi), Mississippi State University (Starkville, MS), Louisiana Tech University (Ruston, LA), and Hinds Community College (Raymond, MS).

She received her Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Southern Mississippi, and the Master of Music (flute performance), and Doctorate of Music (flute performance) from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. Her teachers have included Charles DeLaney, William Bennett, and Patricia George. She has participated in master classes with Paula Robison, and Louis Moyse.

Dr. Maisel has played flute and piccolo with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, the Tupelo Symphony Orchestra, and the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra. She has also been a featured soloist with the Mississippi Symphony and Metropolitan Chamber Orchestras in Jackson, Mississippi.

Maisel served on a panel (“Fundraising for Flute Clubs”) at the 2003 National Flute Association's convention in Las Vegas, Nevada, and adjudicated for the NFA's 2004 Chamber Music Competition and 2002 Professional Flute Choir Competition.

She is affiliated with the National Flute Association, the Mid-South Flute Association, Mu Phi Epsilon (a professional music fraternity), the American Federation of Musicians, the College Music Society, and the National Association of Wind and Percussion Instructors.
