The Brookfield School of Guitar was created with one goal in mind; to provide excellent musical instruction to players of all levels. Mike only teaches well-established, infallible, musical information, guaranteed to help you to grow as a player and artist.

There are no auditions to attend the school. The absolute beginner is welcomed here and can feel at ease, knowing that they will not be overwhelmed while learning at their speed and ability. v

These lessons do not cut corners. They will however help you to structure your practice routine. Within the first few weeks of your lessons you will know exactly what to practice every day.

All students will learn how to read music. These lessons will especially help jazz, classical or rock musicians who are interested in developing their improvisation skills. At the Brookfield School you will learn more about the language of music, which will enable you to seek a higher level of expression through musical knowledge and new approaches to playing.

The Brookfield School of Guitar is based in Portmarnock, 2 minutes walk from the Dart Station.

"The lessons Mike gives are leagues ahead of the rest. You learn about all aspects of the guitar and music in general. You learn not only how to play something, but you learn why you're playing it. You also learn to read music which is a rarity in modern guitar lessons. 99% of lessons elsewhere will consist of aimless hi-gain tablatures handed out by long-haired men with pointy guitars."
Kevin Mc Keon

"I have been playing bass for a little over 4 years. Being self-taught, I found it difficult to pinpoint deficiencies in my technique and difficult to gauge my playing skill. While I have only recently started lessons with Mike, he has helped me identify 3 main areas of my playing that need to be worked on rigorously. There is a definite improvement in my playing and my approach to practicing. Plus, learning to read musical notation focuses my mind really learning the assignments Mike sets."

"What can I say! I was thinking about doing lessons for about a year before I actually bit the bullet and signed up with the Brookfield School. The lessons are exactly what I was hoping for: first and foremost - a broad approach - building skills, technique and understanding without getting too bogged down in one specific musical genre, or school of thought. I have broad musical tastes and the kind of player I would like to become would reflect those broad tastes - so this all fits very well with the philosophy of the school. There is always a sense of where things are going which is helpful in the light of the fact that this is a long term undertaking. The lessons themselves are always enjoyable, informative and I am always inspired to get practicing. So I'm a very happy customer! I'm very happy with the lessons, long live the Brookfield School!"

"I find your lessons very helpful, since starting with you I've developed even more of a love for my instrument and my knowledge has grown immensely. Your method of teaching is excellent, with a focus on musicianship and practice as opposed to just learning off songs. Plus you're a stand up guy which makes it very easy-going but you keep focused on the lesson, which is important. See you on Wednesday,"
Nicholas Appleby

"Congratulations on your achievement so far and thanks for the CD that you sent me I really enjoyed it. I have to say the tuition that I received from you was excellent, I'm just sorry that I can't continue with our lessons. Hope to see you in the future, if you have any short courses in guitar; please let me know as I would be interested in learning with you again. Yours,"

"I am delighted so far with the "hands on" approach to learning jazz guitar... i.e. I am learning pieces as well as the background theory and scales arpeggios etc. and the tapes are an excellent idea. I think it is very important to find the level of competence that any given student brings to you so that you can make the best of what they already have to progress onwards in a structured way. I think you are doing that, so I have no complaint. A 30 minute session every Saturday gives me plenty to keep me busy for the next week... keep it up...!!"
John D'Arcy

"Just want to thank you, Mike and Juliet for a great four weeks and the tea. Had loadsa fun!!! Know my way round Dublin now too it's great-haha. Hope to see you soon. Thanks again." Clodagh Kerley

"I finished my last song writing class last night and just want to say thanks for the opportunity - making these type of classes available to everyone was a great idea. I really learned a lot from Juliet and didn't actually believe I was capable of writing any type of song! I performed my 2 songs last night (very nervously!!!). It was the first time I've ever done something like that so I found it quite daunting and I'm sure made loads of stupid mistakes! I'm definitely going to keep up the song writing though. I think that the classes have given me the confidence I needed to write a song and I've definitely realized that the most important thing is not knocking yourself every time you try to write something and also not to write what you think people want to hear, write what you feel personally. I'm annoyed I'll be missing the last class but I think I've learned a lot from the other 3 classes. As I am a complete beginner to all of this I definitely benefited a lot from taking part. Just wanted to say thanks and I'd appreciate if you could pass on my thanks to Juliet too. Perhaps if you have a mailing list you might keep me in mind for any similar classes in the future? Thanks again. Thoroughly enjoyed it!"
