With their third CD Private Wars Zrazy return to their first big love, jazz. This is a stunning collection of original songs. The title song Private Wars and I Just like to Drink Alone are just two of the songs destined to become classics of the jazz singers repertoire.
Despite one or two nods in a soul and funk direction, the album remains firmly committed to a mellow mood. Maria Walsh wraps her ravishing voice around Carole Nelson's lyrics, always finding an intense emotional depth and maturity with no concession to sentimentality. She is accompanied by music that is both soulful and restrained.
For this recording Zrazy, aka Carole and Maria, has expanded from digital duo to jazz quintet; Geraint Roberts on bass, Myles Drennan on piano, Andrew Bold on drums and Carole Nelson on alto and soprano saxophones. Most of these songs were recorded as first-takes, capturing a freshness, a spontaneity and a great band vibe. Sheer class.
