Sean Nova is a cd compilation of world-renowned songs, translated by the leading poets of our time; see track list below. The musical arrangements are in Brazilian bossa nova style, with a flavour of trad. Bassist and composer Ronan Guilfoyle (renowned for, amongst other accolades, his expertise in trad fusion) wrote these really refreshing arrangements and breathes a whole new lease of life into otherwise set-in-stone songs. The musicians who perform are all leaders in their fields, amongst them saxophonist Michael Buckley, uilleann pipes player Martin Nolan, pianist Phil Ware, guitarist Tommy Halferty. The interpretations of these songs (the English lyrics with which all are familiar!) through the poetic and aesthetic Irish language brings a whole new experience of both the songs and the Irish language. The lyrics printed on the sleeve provide an interesting reference point for those who've been out of contact with the Irish language for a long time.
